Terms & Election
The Council is made up of a Mayor and Council elected for two year terms. The Mayor Pro Tem is elected by the Council from the Council. Council member's terms are staggered. Four are elected on odd years and three are elected on even years.
City Charter
The City of Kaufman became a Home Rule Charter (PDF) city in November of 1987.

Council Meetings
The City Council holds their regular monthly meetings on the fourth (4th) Monday of each month unless a City observed holiday falls on that particular Monday. If this occurs, the meeting is scheduled for another day during that month. The rescheduled meeting date as well as any other special sessions will be posted on the City's website on this page and the "Calendar of Events" page as soon as it is determined.
Agendas
As required by State law, an agenda for each meeting is conveniently posted for the public to view at least seventy-two (72) hours prior to the meeting. The City's official posting site for the City Council agendas is on the front glass of City Hall located at 209 South Washington Street. Current agendas and past agendas can be located on the "Minutes and Agendas" page.

For those citizens that have special needs to attend the meeting please call the City Secretary in advance at 972-932-2216. We will try to accommodate your needs.
Speaking at a Meeting
Persons who would like to speak to the Council, please arrive early enough to fill out a "Request to Speak" form.
Participation
The City Council is always seeking Kaufman residents that are willing to serve on the various Boards and Commissions. Go to the Boards and Commissions page to see what the responsibilities of our boards are and fill out an application.
